After you spend the time and money investing in a nice pair of custom motor metal wheels, you are going to want to make sure you know how to take proper care of those wheels. Custom wheels are an expensive investment, which can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, and you want to make sure you know how to take care of this pricey investment.

Be Careful with Car Washes

When you put on custom wheels, the offset of your vehicle may be changed. Your vehicle should still be able to fit on a normal car wash, however, you need to be very careful with car washes. Your vehicle, with the wheels offset, may not fit properly on the tracks for a car wash, especially if you have made other modifications to the vehicle. That is why you should avoid car washes where your vehicle is pushed through the car wash on a track and stick to car washes where everything is done by hand instead.

Check the Soap Before Washing

When you wash high-quality wheels, you need to be careful with the soap. You don't want to use any soap that has a high acidity rating. Be careful with any soap that is concentrated and needs to be diluted before using it; make sure you stick to the proper dilution. You want to use a clear, coat-safe soap. The more basic the soap, the better.

Use Soft Tools

Cleaning your tires may require you to put a little muscle into the job. However, you shouldn't use stiff tools to help you clean your tires. Using cleaning tools that are abrasive can result in scratches to your expensive custom wheels.

Instead, use soft tools and a little force to clean your wheels. Use nice, soft sponges and rags to clean your custom tires. These types of cleaning tools will get the job done without damaging the tires. Remember, the more frequently you clean the tires, the easier they will be to clean over time.

Wait for Your Tires to be Cool

When you clean your tires, you want to clean your tires when they are cool. You don't want to clean your tires when they are hot. When you put cool water, which is going to be what is coming out of your hose, on your hot custom wheels, you risk leaving water spots on your tires that you will not be able to get rid of. Instead, wash your wheels when your vehicle has been sitting for a long time and the tires are cool. The best time to clean your tires is in the morning, when they are nice and cool, and it is not to hot outside, and the chance of water stains are slim.

When it comes to keeping your custom tires in good shape, you are going to want to wash they frequently with simple soap that is not acidic. Be sure to use soft tools and wait for your tires to be cool.
